Tiny family-owned Loop spot has great Middle Eastern food to go..
The Scene
A few Wash U students mix with busy 9-to-5 types amid the hookahs and Formica-topped tables. Despite the seating area, the place is really more of a deli than a restaurant. Refrigerated cases line one wall, filled with containers of olives, feta, hummus, etc. Grab what you want, then take it to the counter, where you can order sandwiches and pies.
The Food
Amid the cases, the tabbouleh and hummus stand out. Both are among the best in St. Louis. Don't miss the first case, which holds the baklava. A tin of five pieces contains varying shapes, sizes, flavors and textures. After raiding the cases, go to the counter and order more. Try the filling falafel sandwich or the traditional shawarma (marinated beef). Both are served in pitas with vegetables and tahini. Just need a snack? Try the small spinach pie.
