Walked in with a friend one night to get my nipple pierced. They weren't busy and the people behind the counter were super nice. We chatted and talked and felt really welcome. When I went to the back to get the piercing done, the piercer was a little intimidating and had a kind of chilly demeanor but warmed up to my friend and I, and we had fun. The piercing was done with minimal pain and I was super excited about it--loved the result. I left a satisfied, happy camper.

However, a few days later I noticed that the piercing was extremely swollen. At this point I had left town to the city I would be having my summer internship in. I emailed the piercer about the swelling and he was dismissive, saying that it was normal swelling as long as it didn't get worse.

Surprise! It got worse. The piercing became so uncomfortable that it got to the point where it was embedding itself in my nipple. I went to a piercer in my new city and he changed the jewelry, saying the piercer at Iron Age had used the wrong size of jewelry and that it was pierced way too deep and could lead to a lot of dangerous infections. I got worried and continued to care for it the best that I could. I wasn't having a lot of pain but wanted a third opinion on the situation. I sent a picture to a friend of mine who is a piercer that I trust and she told me to remove the piercing ASAP because it was pierced way too deep. Turns out some of the "swelling" was just the extra part of the areola that the piercer shouldn't have pierced but did.

Overall, a waste of $60+. Really disappointed and kind of ticked off about this whole thing--a lot of anxiety, wasted time, money, and effort.

The only reason I didn't give it one star was because the people there were really great.

Sorry to be harsh, but there's no reason a responsible person should be punished for enjoying their body and trusting someone who is supposed to be a professional.

Decent price, bad attitude, good work. I got my first tattoo there yesterday.. I walked in and knew the artist I wanted, who was Darron.. I had gone the previous week and got a price, and they told me $160 for what I wanted. Anyway. I walked in, and the girl told me it'd be an hour wait for my artist, so I signed up for someone else. I waited a few minutes and a different guy came up to me and said Darron would only be 20 minutes at the most. I said ok.. I waited almost 2 and a half full hours for Darron to be done. He drew what I wanted for me, but it was too big so he sized it down, which was a lot better. I was talking to my dad to make sure he wanted to pay that price, and Darron was telling us to hurry up. We finally got seated and he began.. He didnt talk to me barely, so it was an uncomfortable experience. The only thing he did tell me was the guy at the front told me the wrong price, and it should've costed 240$, but he only charged me 180$.. He did a good job but I wish he would have been more friendly.

Horrible attitudes. Couldn't pay me to ever go back.. Horrible staff. Who in this place does NOT have an attitude. Did not feel welcomed at all. Very "clique-ish". My pockets run deep and i have no problem paying a high price for good work but i wouldn't invest a dime in any work out of this shop. the artist i spoke to whose name i wont mention here was a complete jack ass to me. i took my business to Self-Inflicted on Washington ave. and it was a totally different atmosphere not to mention the quality of their work blew the "artists" here out of the water.

Iron Age, best piercing place to go!!!. I got a piercing this past weekend at Iron Age and it was such a GREAT experience! I emailed the piercers in the morning asking a few questions (price, type of jewelry etc) and the piercer working that day, Anne, emailed me back very quick! Anne answered all of my questions and was so sweet and helpful through email so I decided Iron Age was where I was going! When I walked in the guy at the front desk signed me in and helped me pick out which stud would be best for me and answered all of the questions I had. He was VERY professional, friendly and helpful! Then Anne came up front to get me and took me back to the piercing room. It was immaculate! She then talked to me about what she was going to be doing and then opened up all of the equipment from sterilized packages. She helped me pick the exact placement on my nose and made sure I liked it before continuing. As she was piercing she explained EVERY detail that she was doing and it was over before I knew it! She asked if I had any questions at all and also made sure I knew how to contact her if I thought of any after I left. I LOVE my nostril piercing and I LOVE Iron Age! I would highly recommend it to anyone!!! Such an awesome place :)

Iron age,WHAT A JOKE. I got my third tat from iron age on 8/24, two weeks went by. Got my first good look at my new tat. I was told this tat would be very simple, and would not take long. So someone please tell me why I spent $250.00, and got A JACKED-UP tattoo. I went back to talk to this ( artist ).To my surprise he did not see anything wrong, THERE A SHOCK. I'm not going to put his name on this, I feel it's in bad taste. I know there are good artist in this shop that don't deserve reviews like this, there's at least one that I know of. They would not give me my money back, just offered to fix it. I don't won't iron age to fix anything, especially a new tattoo. So in close I spent $225.00 for the tat, $25.00 for the tip, $250.00 in total. For A 5" tat, that looks like xxxx! I will never go back to iron age, It' all hype & way way overpriced. Do your homework, You will see.

Would Reccomend. I have 4 tattoos from Iron Age. One from Jeff and 3 I got at once from Sean. I like all of my tattoos, I think they are beautiful, but I think I have a little more respect for Jeff. If you go to their website Jeff'f's portfolio is smaller, but he did my first tattoo of a butterfly that he drew for me and I love it. He took his time, even though it did hurt, I had five colors in my tattoo and a lot of shading and it's my favorite. It was not overpriced at all. I also think Sean did a good job but I thought for the time and effort put into the tattoos I feel like I paid a little too much, but regardless I would go back. I would defitinitly reccomend Iron Age to anyone. Thanks guys!

Best Place for a Tattoo. I love this shop. I have had small and large tattoos done here. I get comments everywhere I go on how amazing they are. My mom has now gone to Iron Age after seeing my art. You go in with an idea and they turn it into something amazing. Mo and Josh are my artist. I recomend either of them. You will pay a bit more but as mom always says "you get what you pay for" I wont skimp on somethng that is on my body forever or go elsewhere to save 20 bucks. This is the only place to go for tattoos in STL.

best artists in town, knowledgeable staff, great piercing. everywhere i go i get stopped by multiple people to ask where i get my artwork done. they are *always* asking about the pieces done by Iron Age. crazy detailed, beautiful work. the shop is immaculate. i will never go anywhere else in saint louis for a tattoo. the second question is usually how much did i pay in comparison to other places... you get what you pay for obviously! you don't compare applebees to the best restaurant in town.

piercings are done by artists doing it for years - at least. huge jewelry selection, and willing to do custom orders if you are looking for something they don't have.
