Best prime Rib EVER. I was in town on business and the hotel bartender suggested Kreis'. It was--without a doubt--the best prime rib I've ever had. Our server didn't hover, but we were never without drink refills. The ambience seems a little old school and it the lighting is low. I highly recommend it!

Cozy and Crowded which adds to its appeal... My family and I have been going to Kreis' for over 20 years. Attracts high class locals. Expect slower service than usual but I prefer to enjoy my dinner rather than being rushed. I don't mind waiting a short while until I can be seated, as I enjoy a cocktail and take in the crowd.

I tend to stick to the Beef Oscar--(De-lish), along with a twice baked potato. Also recommend their house salad with Mayfair dressing. Demitri has been our favorite waiter!

Nobody goes there; it's too crowded!. For the many who will surely making their first-time visit Kreis' Restaurant, please remember that Kreis' is as much or more an honorable and frequently-visited "exclusive private club" than it is a "public facility." Those of us who have spent most of our lives living in or near Clayton, Ladue, Frontenac, Creve Coeur & Huntleigh have long, long known and relied upon Kreis' George, Pat, Demetri, et al., to consistently deliver great drinks, fine food, superb service! Take my personal, selfish advice (which I copy from Yoggi Berra): "Nobody goes there, it's too crowded!?.

So now to my experienced, educated opinion: Despite that not one item on the Kreis' menu is ?spectacular,? everything offered and delivered at Kreis? is better than great! Why else, one might ask, would we all keep returning?

Great Culinary Experience!!. I have been a customer of Kreis' Restaurant since the original owners, Mr. & Mrs. Kreis owned the place. I can honestly say that the steaks there are excellent. I did have to wait, even though I had a reservation, the last time I was there. But, I will say that it was worth the wait, and it always is. I'm a steak person, and you just can't beat the steaks there - - - excellent!!!!

May be great steaks but not great seafood!. We went to Kreis' for my Mom's birthday. Had a filet the night before at another St. Louis restaurant and decided to go for seafood, so I asked the server about the scallops. He said they were one of their best seafood entrees. I travel all over the country and have had scallops in many cities. If this was their best seafood entree, I would not want to try any of their other seafood. The scallops, while large, had little flavor and were very tough and rubbery. It is the first time in my life that I have not finished my scallops, in fact, I only ate about half of them. I didn't want to make a fuss about them, as it was my Mom's birthday and she was enjoying her filet so much (I had a bite and it was great...go for it if you visit here), I didn't want to say anything. What I really found interesting was the reaction of the server. He didn't blink an eye when he cleared off my plate before anyone else was finished and didn't even ask if everything was ok. Most good restaurants or great restaurants ask. So, go for the filet but avoid the seafood.

The restaurant could use a major remodeling too. The musty smell doesn't go with a great dinner....

Editorial Review. Splurge on a filet, prime rib, lamb chops, veal or seafood entree; cocktails, daily specials, banquet facilities and more.

Best Steak. Classy and Friendly atmosphere await the ravenous appetite. DO NOT come here after a late lunch, unless you want to have leftovers.

My personal favorite cut is the Porterhouse, but if you really want Kreis's signature item and Prime Rib is your game, ask for the Dinner Cut; it comes on an oblong platter, usually hangs over the side, and is a challenge to finish. If you choose to do this on a Friday night, not only will you need reservations for your group, you will also have to "order" your 'slab-o-cow' when making your reservation, because they sell out early!!

The Cities Best Bar Cheese while you wait, great cocktails wine and beers. Old Time waiters, don't rush a good thing, and its worth a few extra minutes, every time ! ! !

save time and money!. Well I read a few of the reviews on this web site and went anyway. Boy the negative ones were right. I could not believe the attitudes of the staff and servers. There was a wait even with reservations. God what a rip off, the prices were bad and just too marked up. The vegetables were wilted and shriveling, a sign that everything was old. The meat was loaded with nitrates to turn it red. The service was slow at best. The food was just good, not the best in the world which is what they tout them selves as.

An All Time Great. Kreis's is a St.Louis treasure. People come from all over the midwest for the prime rib. Favorites like the Vienna beef tenderloin and the veal dishes remain wonderful and consistent. The service is professional and old-world. The waiters are all forty-five years old or more, it seems, and they wear red jackets. The homemade apple strudel served warm with vanilla sauce is a must. Although the wine list is not extensive, the bar makes one of the better martinis I've ever had. Forget about all the chains. Kreis's will keep you cming back.
