Good sushi, plain and simple..
The Scene
I Love Mr. Sushi isn't big on atmosphere. Located in an unasssuming strip mall, it's by no means a dump, but it is a little rough around the edges. It's perhaps this simple atmosphere that draws the sushi-philes in: all sushi, no frills.
The Food
Prices are about average for sushi, so don't come looking for a big bargain. While the regular nigiri sushi is good, the pieces are a little on the small side. The makizushi (rolled sushi), however, is outstanding. The dynamite roll with spicy is always delicious, and the tasty caterpillar roll--crab and avocado rolled to resemble a green caterpillar--is Mr. Sushi's trademark. If you feel like splurging, the rainbow roll is terrific and contains enough variety to satisfy anyone in your party.

Amazing food.
The service may leave you wanting, but the food is just *amazing*. Nowhere else in St. Louis is there White Tuna, and these guys do it *perfectly*.
Must haves: White Tuna, Caterpillar Roll, Unagi, Hot Tuna Roll, Yellowtail.
I would DIE if these guys closed shop!
We love mr. sushi. My wife and I like this better than anywhere else in stl. Some people don't like the atmosphere, but we really like the informal feel. Don't expect great service, but the food is stellar.
Den of Characters. Dined here 2 nights in a row. Place is truly a hole-in-a-wall - about the size of a hotel room! Great sushi, though. Service was fine...more entertaining than efficient! Sit at the bar if possible an observe the help - Japanese carnival drop-outs! Nonetheless, loved the food and the atmosphere. Give it a try!
Have I done something wrong?!.
The bald headed server and older oriental woman treated us so rudely that we thought we might have done something wrong to them personally. After noticing that is the way they treated everyone, we realized this was definitely a take-out sushi place. Ruined a very pleasant evening. You must walk through the kitchen and dishwashing area for the restroom and the tables are stuffed into a room smaller than my bedroom. For average sushi this place was a dud. Still looking for a good affordable sushi restaurant in St. Louis.
P.S. The sushi chef and younger oriental waitress were pleasant and smiling. Mr. Sushi, get rid of the sourpusses!
