MAW is a terrible company to deal with. Their rates are horrible and their customer service dept is bad. Each cs agent has a different approach or gives different information. I requested a call back from a manager or supervisor to resolve an issue and have called and waited 4 days with no call back to date. They are truly not professional. I would give anything not to have to deal with them......
How about treat your customers like they are human. How about the CEO of this company go without water for 3days.
Missouri American water SUCKS. The Missouri Public Service has done Missouri tax payers of MAWC customers an injustice. Instead of giving them a rate increase they should have taken their licenses away and prosecuted this corrupt company. We should all join together and file a suit against them. They have screwed up my bill since Dec. of 2010 and refuse to straighten it out. Now they are threatening to disconnect my service. I'll see them in court , with pleasure,
The service sucks and charge unreasonably. I called twice and spent long time requesting explanation of an item.
I was connected for 7 days before the next billing period and was charged $16.09 for Customer Charge. I was told it was prorated. But the minimal charge even for 1 day service for this Customer Charge is $16.09. This is what happens when you have monopoly.
American Water Co? OR Is It The Sopranos – I own a house in cedarhill MO. and the bill for AWC was in my finace' name. Arrangements for bill pay was made in October 2011 the bill was payed on time in Oct. and Nov. she missed Dec. payment but payed more then double in January. Befor FEBs. payment was due a door hanger was found on 2/6/12 stating (Sewer service sheduled to be disconnected 2/7/12 please call 866-430-0820 to avoid interruption of service) I call the (866) number to stop this erratic action no help was given on the night of the 6th. On the morning of the 7th four men representing AWC shows up with a backhoe to dig up my front yard.I temporarily stoped them by parking my car over the spot thay wanted to dig. trying to reason with them one of the four called jefferson county police on me. The officer immediately told me to move the car off of my own property.when i asked the officer to explain why i had to move off my own property he became very irate and threatened to tow my car and put me in jail. After moving the car i asked to see the easement right to the sewer line noone could produce it. the officer said it is where they say it is. I explained to the officer i was disputing the whereabouts of the easement and ask to see the court order to dig my yard. my name is not on the bills from AWC as the property owner. His response was pay your bills and stuff like this wont happen. Showing proof it was paid the cop walked away and digging began.The AWC workers dug a hole in my front yard (14'long X 6' wide X 10' deep and never found the sewer line they was looking for. Jest as i thought they was off the easement. Today is 2/10/12 and my yard is still a big mudhole noone will respond or fix this problem. In conculsion as an american tax paying citizen my civil rights was tramppuled on by a civial servant and compromised the intergity of the jefferson county police department. AWC has destoryed my property and left a mess that will cost thousands to repair. I will be posting a link for pictures as soon i figure out how thank you for reading this
Lack of time to pay bill – If I had another choice in service I would take it in a heartbeat. I've had trouble with the Co since building my duplex. I can't specifically recount the exact details but it took several times to get the tech out to hook it up and that’s all after they have to dig the trench to the house. That would have been fine but they charge almost double what a standard excavating company would. Next problem was that when I was deployed my finance had trouble paying the bill b/c she wasn’t on the account and she received a bill for over 300 dollars. Like I said I don’t know the exact details b/c I don’t remember everything and don’t have proof. The main thing now is that they give me 5 days to pay the bill. Lucky for USAA on-line bill paying to pay in a timely manner. How in the world do they just give someone such little time to pay a bill. I call their customer service; the lady told me that it was sent out on the 31st of January. I got it on the 5th of February and have until the 10th of February. She couldn’t comprehend what I was saying and said that the delinquent date was the 21st. That doesn’t really make sense to me but that’s not the point. She said I could have an extension but would have to call every month to request it. My whole point is that what happens if I’m gone for 3 weeks (my fiancé doesn’t or won't do bills) for a short deployment and I’m late? For lack of other words that’s stupid and asinine. I did write a message to them through their website. I doubt that does anything so figured I would let other people know and really hope they read this.
Geniuses. – Water main break up the street today. Called to see if we were under a boil order and the girl that answered the phone told me that she didn't know, "it's up to the media" to inform us if there is one/how long it will last.

Won't help locate underground water line – I'm selling my house and needed to locate the water stop box. I called the Missouri-American Water service and they said they do not locate customer water lines. I tried using Dig Rite (Missouri One Call) and was denied saying there are no lines in the excavation area, (note: MAW does not locate customer owned water lines) I needed a little bit of help and they offered none! Instead I wasted an afternoon digging up my front lawn looking for my water stop box.
Try following your own policies Mo-Am Water! – It amazes me that in the 21st century, there is still a utility company that doesn't allow online payments!
Furthermore, there is a complete lack of communication between the service crews and the office!
I waited patiently all afternoon for the service technician to arrive, after first being given instructions that I would be receiving a call a 1/2 hour before they were to restore my service....
The call never came...
I had been trying to nap (having a migraine) and I have dogs in my house, which bark incessantly at the neighborhood traffic. I have learned to tune the dogs out, but was waiting for the call or at least a knock at my door to alert me to their presence.
No call, no knock....
After a few minutes of some more "determined" barking I went to see if perhaps they HAD arrived, only to find that they had quietly slipped a piece of paper into my door, stating that the customer, "must be home for water to be turned on", and no water co. personnel to be seen! They had come and gone, without a call or a knock!
When I called the number provided, I was told that they would "notify" the service people, but that they "couldn't promise" that they'd make it back today to restore my service, as if they have no way to contact their own servicemen!
When I stated that I felt I should be put on some sort of priority, because THEY did NOT meet their own service agreement, I was treated as though it was my fault and that they have NO WAY to prioritize ANYTHING!!!
I wonder just how many of these company inspired mishaps occur daily? Perhaps the local news teams should make a story of THIS particular utility provider, to draw a bit more attention where it's needed!!!!!
UPDATE! Well, they DID send someone, and DID make it a priority!! WOOT!
And the second set of personnel I dealt with were both friendly and helpful, so I guess it's not ALL bad, but they should address some of these reoccurring issues.... What do YOU think?
