Food lacked proper temp, taste, and visual appeal / Service was inadequate – When my friend and I got to the restaurant and sat ourselves in a corner the waitress was not around.. we found her and said we were needing to order because we had another engagement and on a schedule. After she knew we were there she didn't bring water till 5 minutes after we asked for it the next time she came. She didn't offer the special till we asked what the daily special was and then couldn't understand what she was saying so after a few minutes of asking repeatedly what she meant we decided to order off the menu to avoid continually asking what the special was. We ordered a chicken pastry and salad .. it took almost half an hour to get our food delivered to our table. The sauce was cold and without flavor, some items were missing from the ordered salad that were said to be on it in the menu, the waitress was told and didn't offer a replacement or compensation for incorrect salad/cold food. We paid and left .. unsatisfied.
Inside sources say most deserts/pastries there are brought in and the name changed. This place claims they bake them there but this is not the case! Who knows what else isn't properly given credit....
AMAZING DESERT! – I've never eaten there personally but i've had their cheesecake and their white choc raspberry cake.. and OMG.. I would recommend anyone go there for some amazing deserts.. if i ever get married i'm having them make my wedding cake haha
Delicious and Cheap – I love French culture and the language, but I have never had french food before, but I still know enough to know what is good. I had Croquie Monsieur and French Onion soup, which was good, though both dishes were so heavy that I would not recommend getting them together, but seperately they were very good. The hostess was very kind and accommodating. Our waitress was helpful, especially with our bread choice.
We sat on the patio outside and it was wonderfully relaxing.
The dessert was amazing and I would recommend it to anyone, even a random stranger such as yourself, it was called 4 flavor cake. It was a coating of white icing, then chocolate cake, then there was praline icing (which had a caramel-esque flavor), then mocha (which was amazing), then vanilla, then chocolate (each icing layer had an accompaning layer of chocolate cake). This dessert was one of the best I have ever tasted and I would recommend this restaurant to ANYONE, and I can't wait to go back.
For a meal or a special treat – any business folk around Olive and 270 know about this restaurant tucked away in the shopping center by Culpeppers for their pastries and lunch, but dinner is a treat not to miss.
Weve had the pastries and decided to go for a dinner visit. I wasn't sure what to expect with "french" food, but I was pleasantly surprised how many items on the menu (and in the plethora of specials of the night) were familiar to me: fish, steak, quiche, and more... even pb&j for the kids. Wide variety of drinks available with the house special mango iced tea. Jeans and a t-shirt or a shirt and tie... all are welcome and comfortable. Good lighting, very friendly folk, overall pleasant experience.
Oh and this isn't the normal 'pass on the dessert' place... Its what put La Bonne Bouchee on the map. Take it home if you must wait!
When you want to give the best . . . – Last weekend La Bonne Bouche created a birthday cake for a 90th year celebration, with more than 50 persons from all over the country gathered. Without exception, the cake was given rave reviews for beauty and taste, and inquiries were made as to the bakery from which it came. I'm very grateful to the master artists!
French pastries extraordinaire. – The Scene
The dining room is a bit utilitarian, comfortable but nothing other than ordinary. But you do have to pass by the pastry cases on your way to a table, which will definitely affect you mood.
Not only is the food good, but the value is unbeatable. For a mere $5.75, you can have an entree with a salad or soup. By all means go with their excellent French onion soup, as the dinner salads are sometimes rather nondescript. Or try the la poitrine de poulet "Basquaise," a steamed chicken breast smothered with a tantalizing concoction of tomatoes, onions, green peppers and Bercy sauce (shallots, butter and reduced fish stock). The quiche Lorraine is excellent and La Bonne Bouchee has altered a typically dry croque monsieur into a melted cheese and white sauce extravaganza. Omelets are creamy, light and delicately filled.
No description of La Bonne Bouchee would be complete without mentioning the fabulous cakes, cookies, pastries and tarts. Satisfy your mid-afternoon sweet tooth, as every sinful creation is absolutely scrumptious. They travel well in their white boxes, so take one home or to the next dinner party.
