What People Are Saying About Carl's Drive Inn

The Scene – A handful of bar stools line each side of the grill. There's a pay phone next to the counter, a menu on the wall and a barrel of house-made root beer in the center of it all. If you come during off-peak hours (early for lunch or dinner or late in the evening) you'll be one of the lucky ones to grab a stool, place your order and watch the short-order cooks execute it with precision and few wasted movements. If your timing is off, you can place your order to go or lurk in the corner and wait for someone to leave. – – The Food – Thin and crisp-edged burgers…
Great local hamburger / hot dog / root beer stand. One of a kind!

Carl's is at least as good as all the previous reviews. Great, fresh, delicious food, icy and refreshing root beer, and a neat place to visit and dine.
- Pros: Inexpensive, delicious, fun
- Cons: Can be very crowded
I miss Carl's!

I used to live one mile from Carl's, now I live 2,144 miles from Carl's. Some days I'd still make the drive to get a few burgers, fries and a huge icy root beer. Growing up in STL I didn't realize quite how special a place like Carl's drive-in was. Now it is one of a handful of dining experiences in my life that compares to nothing else, part nostalgia for a taste of home and part just wonderful food, a craving that nothing else can satisfy. I haven't been back home in years, but when I go Carl's will be one of the first stops I make. I just hope they're open when I get there.
Carl's One of a Kind

Although the spacious room one desires to be accompanied with while dining isn't available, Carl's makes up for it with their exceptional burgers and wonderful hot dogs. And don't forget an ice cold glass of A&W rootbeer. When I go to Carl's I feel very very comfortable and welcome. i almost kind of feel like I'm six years old and getting to go to the candy shop in the 50s. It's a wonderful experience.
- Pros: Inexpensive, Quick Service, Friendly Management
- Cons: Crowded, Limited Parking, Very few seats
