Too Many Mosquitoes in June.
A few of my friends and I played this course on June 1 around 3pm for a special rate under $30.
It's a tree-lined layout that is built right in to the natural landscape with lots of elevation changes. There are no houses along the holes, each hole is it's own hole, and overall it was a fantastic course for that price. You may even see a deer or two along the way.
The best hole in my opinion was the par-5 15th because of the huge drop-off from the tee box. The condition of the course was very nice with the exception of a fair amount of ground-under-repair in the fairways, some slightly uneven tee boxes with long grass, and some poorly drained bunkers (the ones that weren't flooded were very good to hit from).
The par 3's looked nice from the tips but I ended up using only mid and long irons which was a bit disappointing from a diversity standpoint. Some of the best par 3's are shorties. It would've been nice if this course had one.
I would advise to NOT play this course in the summer unless you bring a TON of bug spray (never played at a place with so many mosquitoes) and plenty of water (from the heat and humidity). It's the day after now and I'm itching all over the place.
I would definitely play it again for the cheaper rate (wouldn't play it for the normal rate), but only in the Spring or Fall (before the leaves fall) when there are no bugs.…
This big-city oasis was designed with the recreational golfer in mind..
Designer
Tom Fazio, the hottest course designer in America during the '90s, designed the Bluffs. Opened in 1995, the Bluffs plays as a par-71, but you can choose from five tees to change
the length from 5,200 yards to 7,047 yards. Fazio designed this with the average golfer in mind: the course is long and carved out of the woods, which will gobble up errant tee shots, but the fairways are sloped and level to keep balls in play.
Locale
The course also keeps you moving: a round takes about four hours. Located in St. Charles, it's only five minutes across the Missouri River from St. Louis County. The course is close to the highway, but you won't notice; the place is so pastoral there are times you'll have to play through grazing deer.…
Nice upscale track. The Bluffs is a nice course with a variety of elevations and shots. Most holes were fair from the middle tees for a high handicapper. Priced in the premium range.
