Tips for Pueblo Nuevo Mexican Restaurant

Best Authentic Mexican Food. I've been going to Pueblo Nuevo for many years and absolutely love their food. Those folks who go to eat Mexican at Casa or El Maguey are getting the Americanized style of Mexican food. Pueblo Nuevo is the closest to authentic that I have had in St. Louis. Many times that I've been there I've seen folks from Mexico also eating there. I don't see this at the other restaurants!

Great Food!!! Horrible Food Sickness!!. The food was fantastic. The sauce, the Salsa, the Enchiladas.

The only problem i had was I ate the green sauce over two enchiladas and was deathly sick for 2 days.

It's the green sauce stupid!. A friend introduced me to Pueblo Nuevo over 10 years ago and I've been a repeat customer ever since. I've tried different things on the menu and never had anything I didn't like, but I keep coming back to the enchiladas with green sauce. To die for! The staff is friendly and service is good. The prices have crept up over the years keeping me from visiting as much as I might like. It's my favorite Mexican restaurant in the St. Louis area.

Mexican with a mediterranean or italian flair. This is good food with a unique flavor (mediterranean?). From talking with others who have eaten there, you either really like it or you really don't. Be open minded, it's worth a try for anyone. If you are looking for full fledged mexican, go to Arcelia's down in St. Louis city. I would say this is mexican with a flair. For instance the salad I ordered tasted like it had italian dressing. On one evening occasion they had a really good guitar player and his young daughter was there singing a few songs. (Good music, added ambience to an otherwise ordinary looking place.) And if I understood correctly the owner worked at another well known restaurant before becoming business owner himself.

The Real Thing. The verde enchiladas here are worth driving from whatever location you're coming from -- they're definitely 5-alarm! You can purchase a tequila sucker with a worm inside at the counter, if that sort of thing thrills you. (I passed on this thrill.) The chips are wonderfully freshly made and hot, the salsa is tangy (two versions). Too bad the Velvet Freeze still isn't next door: That made for a wonderful "Part Two" to an evening at Pueblo Nuevo.

Best in Town. Pueblo is fantastic and our favorite restaurant. The food is authentic - always fresh and prepared with a love for mexican culture. My husband says it is the only food he's had in a restaurant that reminds him of his mother's cooking. The menu has a wide variety of dishes, and everything is great. This is a family operation, so feel free to bring your kids. On weekends they also have one or two guitarists. They recently expanded, so seating isn't a problem.

Great - The Hidden Treasure. Pueblo Nuevo is a great Mexican Restaurant here in St. Louis. Some say it is the hidden treasure here in S. Louis because it is a ver small Mexican Restaurant. I would say this Restaurant is up there with the best of the best of Mexican Restaurants here in St. Louis. The food is Authentic and not that type of So called Authentic that you get a Casa Gallardo or El Maguey - this is real Mex. food and is cooked and owned by Mexicans. Also please keep the owner in your prayers who has just passed away.
