This massive stainless-steel monument put St. Louis on the map.

The Scene
Part of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, the Gateway Arch marks the entrance to the American West. The Old Courthouse and the Museum of Westward Expansion are also on the grounds, and together they make a great day of St. Louis sightseeing.
The Experience
Consider standing in the usually long line for a tram ride to the top of the 630-foot arch, where you can spend up to an hour with the view. This seven-minute ride at the nation's tallest monument is fairly slow and not at all scary, so don't be afraid to give it a go. If you do suffer from claustrophobia or vertigo, skip the tram and take a seat on a park bench around the landmark and enjoy its beauty from ground level. History buffs should check out "Monument to the Dream," a documentary about the construction of the stainless steel behemoth.

Arch where is the money going?

The Arch is a good educational and historical place to visit. Make sure you bring extra cash with you if you want to visit the movie, the museum and/or ride up to the top!
- Pros: educational, historical
- Cons: expensive, long way from parking, crowded
Becky and Wanda

The Arch is a great place for visitors or locals to re-visit. I have been several times. The view is great. Not meant for the closterphobic person. The ride to the top is a little scary, but well worth the wait. Here in St. Louis we have these commercials with Becky and Wanda flying around on a magic carpet by the Arch. Someday I hope the carpet runs out of magic.
- Pros: view, view, view
- Cons: elevators, dont serve beer

my reviews of the arch is that it is a great place to visit ,a great place to take the family and learn about our history of the west and the history of the building of the arch. but there needs to be a cprrections in the ETA of the tram ride to the top of the ride. it only takes about 7 mins. to ride to the top and about 5 mins. to ride back down. but it may take awhile to acctualy get on the tram, but it is worth the wait.
- Pros: inexpensive, historic, good parking
- Cons: crowded(weekends)

I am a native St. Louisan and have loved this city since day 1 !! I finally was able to go up into the arch at the age of 26 ( I am afraid of heights) and Absolutely loved the view!) Now I am soon to move to another city -due to a job change for my fiance- and I know that the image of the ARCH is one that I will always have with me when I think of my hometown! Check out the museum at the base of the arch too- it is fantastic, full of the stories of Lewis and Clark!
- Pros: views
- Cons: hours, crowded
Everyone should visit at least once
by jgfrater at Citysearch
Visiting the Arch is something everybody should do at least once. The trip to the top is kind of overrated, but again, should be done at least once just to say you did it. I have visited several times and am a novice but avid photograhper and find taking pictures of the Arch from different angles and distances fun. The hour-long river cruise you can take from the base of the arch is worth it for some great photos of the Arch and city of St. Louis.
- Pros: Cheap Parking, Good Pictures, Historical
- Cons: Crowded
