- Pros: DOWNTOWN LIVING
Deadzone-caused
by baritone
25 years ago Civic Progress was persuaded
to eliminate all downtown music, arts and culture-
especially Kiel Opera House to protect the
Fox Theater. Since then they have not allowed
the City to bring back our dead and dangerous
civic plaza..while pouring 3 billion dollars into
the Gateway Mall east of Tucker.. Not three
cents west of Tucker. Kiel could have done it
a dozen years ago. That's what downtown
performing arts centers do
The money then jumped to grand center-
hundreds of millions and on out to the
Central West End. Next 50 million to gouge
trolley tracks into the pavement to trolly
people from Joe Edwards Place to a deadbutt
museum. .
In the Park, Civic Progress choked MUNY down
to protect the Fox She closes a record early
August 9th.
The combined restraint of trade of Kiel
and MUNY has cost St. Louis its convention
and group travel business, finally took Plaza Square, Jefferson Arms and Union Station goes next.
Kansas City has buried St. Louis as a destination.
In three weeks no one will remember where
the All Star game was held..or who won.
Our sports and casinos downtown is
a total failure.
I have submitted more data to the U.S.
Attorney asking him to stop the restraint
of trade of Kiel and MUNY for obvious reasons.

You get what you pay for
by kmhar825
The reason I renewed my lease is that it is the cheapest place to live downtown AND I have a balcony. With all the places going condo ? it is great to see a place that still rents apartments. BUT you truly do get what you pay for. The common areas are very run-down and dirty. The cleaners only do surface cleaning ? not any deep cleaning which it desperately needs. The hallway carpets are extremely dirty with stains especially near the garbage closet. The basement and stairway have concrete floors and haven?t been cleaned in years or been cleaned with very dirty water. The laundry room is in the basement and is dirty ? just don?t drop anything on the floor and check the machine before you put anything in. --- Two years ago there was security staff on almost 24/7. In the past few months, I haven?t seen a single one ? I don?t think they have them anymore. Let?s face it, it is downtown and it is ok during the day, but at night it does get scary. --- Also with it being a cheaper place to live, some of my neighbors are not the most desirable. One group finally moved out ? they use to urinate in the elevator and break the locks on the outside doors. --- The office staff is a mixed bag. GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING. I got burned on this. The leasing agent told me one thing and come to find out it wasn?t true ? guess who is paying for that mistake. --- When you call in about anything that needs fixed in your apartment, generally you have to wait quite a while and make numerous phone calls. Last year I didn?t have an air-conditioner that worked while it was in the mid 90?s and it took a week for them to put in a new one. --- Lastly, the elevators: Last year when it rained, it rained in the elevators. For a while both were down, but they did re-open one. This year, I got stuck in the elevators twice. Now the elevators have been shut down by the Fire Marshall and will be shut down for at least three more weeks because the parts are obsolete and have to be manufactured.
- Pros: cheap, downtown, balcony
- Cons: ugly, dirty, no security guards
We are talking dump, State condemned elevator,
by lamiaposta
State condemned the elevators because landlord refused for two years to get proper inspections and no elevator company would do work because he never paid the last elevator company. Swimming pool closed by City Department. Laclede gas gave notice they were going to shut gas to all buildings on August 9th, because landlord has not paid bill. Hall ways filthy, lots of sewer problems in basement and laundromat constantly has insects. Repairs in apartments take months or never get done and tenants get fed up and move out. City has had the landlord in court several times this month (July 07) for code and safety violations. They put on a good show in the office about how wonderful everything is and how they are tending to needed repairs but it is all a sham. They own another complex in Pennsylvania and have a bad reputation there too. All St. Louis TV station have aired bad comments about Plaza Square. Let' put it this way, it is bad enough that it makes the prime time news almost daily this month. DO NOT MOVE IN HERE, PLEASE Check out comments At apartmentratings (dot) com
- Pros: Downtown, cheap living
- Cons: Very poorly managed and City is constantly sueing landlord
