The Work
The Black Rep is yet another jewel in St. Louis' theater crown. This company provides the city with seasons dedicated to African-American artists, writers, plays and musicals exploring the black experience in America. The work of brilliant American artists like August Wilson, Eubie Blake and others is featured. The Black Rep also makes classic theater pieces accessible, sometimes for the first time, to St. Louis' black community. It finds the relevance to African-Americans' modern lives in "Waiting for Godot" and other great works. Under the artistic direction of actor and director Ron Himes, the Black Rep has gained a national reputation for excellence.
The Venue
The Black Rep calls the Grandel Theatre home. This location puts the theater group within Grand Center's vibrant arts community, which includes heavy hitters like the Fox and the Symphony as well as smaller venues like Bistro Europa and the Sheldon.
