Love the Patio!
by allleycat
We had hot wings, spinach artichoke dip w/pita bread, and a French Dip & Fries on the Patio. Stayed later than we had planned and the band started playing inside. Great crowd! Great music. Glad we were seated out on the patio, it got pretty LOUD inside. Went inside to dance, then outside to relax with our drinks and friends. Great evening, we'll be back!
- Pros: Great Patio and Live Music
- Cons: 2 Loud inside and only 1 bathroom
open mic

Blues Legends at their best. Bennie Smith has kept me coming back year after year. The band is a wide variety of telented, yet humbled professionals who entertain with the best in soulard!!! Food is average. Drinks are average as well. The service was quite suspect until my last visit...One new server in particular was extremely busy, attentive and friendly with my group. We had a blast and can't wait to return. Thanks mostly to the service improvement. Might want to try a patio day for the band on Sunday and see how it works...
- Pros: music, new service, talent sitting in
- Cons: food needs more care, drinks small, little tight
Go only for drinks and music

I've been to Hammerstones numerous times. It's a great place to hear blues and drink with your friends. But do NOT go for food.
The last three times the service has been poor and the food worse. Their 1lb order of chicken wings consists of 7 small wings on a large plate. The spinach dip only filled the small bowl 1/3 at best and came with stale chips. The burger I had was unappetizing cooked so that it resembled a charcoal briquette even though I ordered it medium.
Everytime the wait staff seems very unhappy and poorly trained. One time the waitress dropped a bottle by my feet that broke and never apologized.
There are many places better to eat at in Soulard.
- Pros: Good Blues
- Cons: , Food Quality, Food Quantity
Good food, better blues.

The Skinny
Hammerstone's is an intimate place that varies its music from acoustic blues and mellow jazz to basic electric blues and R&B. It's in the Soulard area, so if you hate the band you can abandon them immediately, step outside and hop to another place similar in size and atmosphere.
The Atmosphere
Hammerstone's best trait is its range; unlike most bars in the area that book the same four blues bands, Hammerstone's has found unique artists that add a little something extra. The club occasionally hosts a Saturday afternoon hootenanny that's said to be, well, a hoot, and it provides a warm, relaxing courtyard sheltered by trees.
