Best Irish Pub Overall!
by scotchirishlass
Let me tell you, this is a great pub! Best service: Lucky and Johnny, thanks always for top service and conversation! Delicious food, fish and chips are tasty. Anywhere we sit is wonderful. Outside at Johnny's bar or inside at Lucky's. Our friends and family feel at home here!
- Pros: Atmosphere and service
- Cons: Can be crowded-especially St. Pats and Mardi
You ain't seen a pub until you've seen McGurk's

This is the ultimate in "pubbery". Better and more beers on draft than most pubs, and excellent Irish food. The decor is wonderful and homey, and you feel as though you've been taken to an actual pub in Ireland. The grilled cheese is heavenly, and the lamb stew in hearty and satisfying. They have live Irish music at least 4 nights a week, but arrive early or you'll be standing. When dining, the live music adds a great ambience to a wonderful casual dining experience. The outdoor patio is great, especially when the weather is nice and you're with a group of friends. Prices couldn't be better for this sort of place -- go here before you try anywhere else.
- Pros: Bartenders/bar, Music, quality of food
- Cons: Street Parking
An expansive menu and a gorgeous garden patio keep revelers pouring into Soulard's most beloved Irish hangout.

The Scene
With its warm brick and wood interior and four bars and dining rooms from which to choose, McGurk's is one of the area's best finds for a cozy dinner or big get-together. A 20- to 30-something crowd comes for intimate atmosphere, Irish folk bands and a substantial wine and beer selection. But the gem in the restaurant's crown is its sprawling outdoor patio and bar, a cool urban oasis on any steamy summer night.
The Food
The draw here is hearty comfort food. Young couples begin with starters of crisp chips with vinegar, then move on to a melt-in-your-mouth Gaelic filet in a tart whiskey reduction or a divinely simple Guinness stew with beef tips, potatoes and carrots. Red meat dodgers should skip the bland pan-seared salmon for a huge Caesar salad with juicy, just-off-the-grill blackened chicken. Irish coffee and warm, rich bread pudding make a great dessert.

As a regular patron of the bar, I am, never disappointed in the service. The food is always above average to excellent. There is always live irish music 7 days a week. The Pub can get a little crowded on the weekends, so for dining get there before 8pm. There is always plenty of room though, with five rooms inside. Their outside patio is amazing with a huge main bar, and a smaller side one. The patio is heated and covered in the colder months. Once the weather warms up, it is one of the best outdoor bar patios in St. Louis.
It's like a mini vacation!

This place is great. Great food, Great service, Great atmosphere! They have the BEST patio in St. Louis. When eating in side it is like you are transported to Ireland. They play Irish music and have Irish bands in on certain nights. Now the food. They have bar snack to gourmet steaks, and just about everything in between. You have to order the Irish chips, they are homemade potato chips and you can get a basket of them. It is a really neat place just to have some chips and a beer and people watch or a great place to have a romantic dinner for two. When we go out this is always the first place everyone mentions. You have to try John D. McGurk's Irish Pub.
- Pros: Great Food, Great Patio, Good Beer Selection
- Cons: , Can be crowded, Inside can be smokey
Great Patio

The back patio has further been expanded, adding about 50% more room and another bar.
When the weather is nice the place gets crazy busy. If you're going on the weekend to eat get there before 8pm. Because after 9pm it's all drinkers.

This is a fun restaurant for all. The old Irish pub offers great food and drinks. There is always a live band playing great Irish music! Located in Soulard and is a wonderful place to meet people around STL.

- Cons: Parking, Crowded
Good food

Had the cajun chicken sandwich with chips for lunch. The chicken was covered in cheese and roasted red peppers were on top. It was yummy. Their home-made chips were good too with a vinegar shaker on the table. Smoked Trout Salad is unique, tasty and received very generous portions. Service was a little slow but food was good.
- Pros: reasonable pricing, convenient to downtow
- Cons: poor parking, arrive early
