Overpriced concession food
by iam4life
We were looking for a casual restaurant where our kids wouldn't be interrupting somebody's romantic dinner. We decided to try ZuZu's based on their website. The atmosphere in their new restaurant in Clayton is actually chic and modern, but the girl at the cash register was dressed in sloppy jeans and sweatshirt, coupled with laceless Converse tennis shoes. The restaurant was freezing! Another employee was wearing a hoodie watching a movie on the flat-panel t.v. located near the bar. They did put on Scooby Doo for us on one of the t.v.'s. but left the sound off so they could hear their own movie. I ordered chips and mild cheese dip ("Queso lite," they call it) for the kids, not knowing we would get chips anyway. In a short time, I heard the girl shouting through the window to the cook, "I need a Queso lite!" She waited about 3 minutes, and then ran to the back herself, reappearing with the Queso lite. I literally think she opened a can of concession-stand nacho cheese dip and tossed a dollop of sour cream on it. The black beans definitely came straight from a can. The tamales tasted like so many I've made at my home from the frozen grocery-box--overheated in the microwave and hard on the edges. My husband had something unidentifiable on his burrito plate that looked like a thick, dwarfed tortilla. He said the flavor was okay, but it was too hard to bite into it. When we asked about dessert (having seen some monstrous "Cajeta" ice cream dessert advertised on their website), we were told they just had ice cream. Then she said they could probably put together the Cajeta. It was three scoops of low-quality vanilla ice cream drizzled with chocolate syrup and accompanied by cinnamon-sugar tortilla chips. I could have done better at home for the cost of it. The cheese quesadilla that I stole from my kid's plate was surprisingly tasty, but I wouldn't fight the parking just for that. Taco Bell Drive-Thru actually sounds more tempting for tasty and inexpensive Mexican food.
- Pros: Decor
- Cons: Terrible food, employee indifference, quite chilly, hard to find parking
Unique and delicious

Worst Mexican food
by tls2008
I have never been in a Mexican restaurant I didn't like until now. This was a huge disappointment and way over priced. The burrito was very dry and bland. The chicken taco salad was nothing more than a lot of spicey shreded chicken over poorly drained lettuce.
- Pros: location
- Cons: bad food
Terrible!

We finally tried ZuZu's after hearing about it for so long - What a major disappointment! The enchiladas were fair at best - and the sauce had much more of a Italian seasoning than Mexican. The Mexican potatoes were inedible. Truly. We had the queso - a VERY tiny bowl with lumpy cheese that has cold in spots, yet tasted burnt. I tried the corn salad, something I looked forward to - a soggy, tasteless mess. I was hoping for a bright spot with the margaritas, but it was perhaps the worst margarita I have EVER tasted: Way too sweet. If there was any tequila in there I would have been shocked. There were just two salsa there when we went, don't know what the third one was that others have mentioned. They were ok. The only positive thing was the service. We will not be back.
- Pros: service
- Cons: food and drink
Not good

After reading a few reviews we decided to try out ZuZu's since we love mexican food. It was awful. I could make better mexican food in my kitchen than waste my money going here. Trust me when I say we LOVE mexican food, this was not it.
- Pros: 3 different salsas
- Cons: Food not good
too much show
by njcbasketball
Pretty good food. expensive for mexican food. lunch always ends up costing me like over 10 bucks. salsa is average. Too much effort put into the look of the plate an not the taste.
- Pros: good food, good location, cool atmosphere
- Cons: too expensive for Mexican, could taste better

Great overall Mexican restaurant
by spasovid
I've been to Zuzu's many times and believe it to be the best Mexican restaurant in St. Louis of all restaurants I've tried here. Excellent value and great food for the money. Food tastes fresh and seems to be prepared properly.
- Pros: Food, Prices, Service
Pretty Good for a Quik stop after work
by tpdouaihy
The food at Zuzu's is consitently fresh and tasty. Though I don't know that I would describe it as "authentic" Mexican, its decent Mexican-American. Good salsas, and I like the fact that there is a salsa bar with fresh cilantro available.
- Pros: Hard to Park at lunch, Clayton location
