Nice place, lousy coffee

by JaimeGar

I have tried 4 of their coffees and all 4 were lousy. Its a nice place with nice seating but I could not get past the lousy coffee. I would say if the coffee that you drink has more cream and sugar in it than coffee then you could tolerate it. But if you like good coffee then this is not the place for you.

  • Cons: lousy coffee

I won't go back

by daddy1431

I tried Kaldi's at the suggestion of a friend. I realize that tastes vary, but I couldn't believe that anyone was calling this great coffee. Atmosphere was quite nice.......just couldn't get past the bad coffee!

  • Pros: Cool atmosphere
  • Cons: Bad coffee

Incredible Coffee Shop

by louithefish

I've been to every independent coffee shop in the St. Louis area, and hands down Kaldi's is still the best. After more than 10 years of going to the DeMun store it is still the best with the best decoration, best coffee, and hands down the best staff and service. Far worth making the trip in to Clayton if you live in Chesterfield or beyond.

  • Pros: Awesome service, ample parking, incredible atmosphere
  • Cons: Can be extremely busy on weekends, food can be pricey

The BEST coffee in America!

by sherwood74

Kaldi's is great! Coffee, food, ambiance, freshly roasted beans, whatever! Any of the locations will serve the best quality coffee you have tasted, but the original at DeMun is my personal favorite. Take home some of the whole bean cinnamon hazelnut - I promise you won't be sorry! White Mocha, Granita, Lemon Bars...all great! I have traveled far and wide, across the U.S.A. and haven't found anyone to beat Kaldi's.

  • Pros: Best Coffee, Atmosphere, Did I say best cofee?
  • Cons: Nothing, Nothing, Nothing

Not so great coffee

by stlgal

The coffeehouse itself may be nice, but I'm not a big fan of Kaldi espresso drinks. I've tried it at several locations and although the actual Kaldi location does make it the best, it is still not a good espresso.

Try the Kaldi's in Kirkwood

by breakfaster

Kaldi's is expanding in St. Louis and possibly beyond! The Kirkwood location is great, better service, clean restaurant, expanded menu. The Demun location is great if you're a hippie or rich WashU student, but the Kirkwood location serves the average person and is big enough for groups. Try it today!

  • Pros: Big seating area, CLEAN, Great service

A neighborhood this charming deserves such a great coffee shop.

The Scene
In a sleepy corner of the Demun neighborhood lies Kaldi's. As popular with students as with fortysomething Clayton residents, the place is rarely empty. You'll probably end up standing in line for your grande latte, though that's due as much to the lackadaisical service as to Kaldi's popularity. This is definitely not the place for harried workaholics jonesing for some quick caffeine. But if a relaxing morning sipping coffee is your speed, stop by.

The Food
According to co-founder Howard Lerner, Kaldi's brews "the only certified kosher coffee in the Midwest, which means a rabbi checks out the roasting plant every month." Of its nearly 100 coffee products, Lerner notes that about 30 are organic, which means Kaldi's is also "the largest roaster of certified organic coffees in the Midwest." And not only does it serve fine, house-roasted coffee, it also has a great vegetarian menu. Try some hummus or a veggie sandwich for a light meal or a snack to fuel your midterm crunch.

Favorite coffee house in St.Louis

by kemolledog

One of the best places to sip coffee and converse with friends, intelligensia, or families with kids. This is truly a "3rd Place". Kaldi's roasts their own coffee and it is now served in many of the best restaurants in St. Louis. They are also committed to selling "Fair trade" coffee and feature one every Friday. Pastries are some of the best of any coffee shop; some produced in house. Their breads are from a successful local "Craft" bakery, Companion Bakery. 12 ounce Coffee is 1$,(That's right one dollar!) .60 for refills, pastries/ generally 1.75, some higher. Great coffee, great prices, friendly service, beautiful location(in front of a private college park)---with shaded morning outdoor seating.........................nice

overrated?

by anle3

It is a nice quiet coffee shop, but far too overrated. It is expensive and the coffee does not taste that great either.

The only, the best

by sillybugger

Kaldi's is the only place in St. Louis with worthwhile coffee. These aren't your corporate Starbucks baristas (no 10-second rule on the brewed coffee needed here), and the beans are full. Tried a few other independents, and Kaldi's is worth the drive to DeMun over them.

  • Pros: Excellent quality, good hours, good neighborhood
