Avoid at all costs...

by MReeser

I did not think until today that a restaurant could have such a completely horrid stem to stern operations than when we ate for Dining Out for Life this evening.

I thought it impossible to spoil a hamburger until I got a cold one that tasted like it has been soaked in vinegar for an hour on a soggy bun after waiting nearly an hour to get served. Then after absolutely horrible service we were told to go to the bartender to have the bill totalled, which took nearly 15 minutes just to get waited on for that.

Of the 15 people at our table, only two got a problem free meal and one was completely "lost"

When I asked one of my table guests what her chicken sandwich was like, she said it tasted like it had been made in a dirty sock and dragged on the sidewalk and was also cold.

All this for outrageous prices! Who could ask for less?

It is totally unacceptable for a restaurant to be operated like this, makes me shudder to think what goes on in the kitchen.

This place is absolutely horrid and I will NEVER eat there again.

  • Pros: The best things they could do is close the doors
  • Cons: Horrible food and service

Great pub atmosphere

by geowei

This place goes back a ways and has a great pub feel to it on the inside, with a good basic pub menu. Also extensive outdoor seating when the weather's nice. Generous portions, friendly staff and a cozy feel.

  • Pros: One of the better CWE pubs
  • Cons: Can fill up inside

It's good but a bit pricey.

by AlliCat85

I went to Dressel's last night because I have been there before and wanted to try it again. First of all parking is very hard to find but I expected that because of where they are located. The atmosphere is neat and the people there are very friendly. Normally at places that I have gone to the "specials" are resonably priced so me and my boyfriend weren't to concerened about this. They read the specials to you so they are not in a menu and there is no price. When we got the bill his was $14 and mine was $12. The food itself was good but not great. If I'm spending this kind of money I want to walk out saying, " wow, that was great"! Overall, we had a good experience but I was just a little bothered by the prices.

  • Pros: The place is neat and the people are friendly
  • Cons: The parking is bad and the food is pricey

Atmosphere, Atmosphere, Atmosphere

Fron the caricatures and portraits of authors and poets lining the walls to the extensive menu of beers and whiskeys, everything about Dressel's says this is a place to get seriously laidback. Food is good, though not the main attraction. Old school bartenders with attitude go a long way towards making the place.

Just what a Welsh pub should be--smoky, noisy and comfortable.

The Scene
On any given night, you might find a bespectacled philosophy professor earnestly deconstructing Descartes with a grad assistant, or a table of bleary-eyed Washington University students unwinding after exams. It's so laid-back that the menu admonishes patrons to refrain from putting their feet on the chairs and banquettes.

The Food
After ordering a basket of Bavarian potato chips, the best menu items to choose from are the stews and meat pies. The Cornish meat pie is a big, satisfying wedge of golden pastry filled with chunks of beef, potatoes and vegetables (vegetarians can order it sans beef). The stockpot special changes daily, but some favorites are Hungarian goulash, Creole beef stew and red beans and rice. Manhattan and New England clam chowders are available on alternating weeks.
