Good Night Out

by Garinda47

I've never eaten dinner at this restaurant but it is a great place to got for a night out. Vibrant, friendly atmosphere. There is no blaring music or flashing lights but it is still very hip and the crowd eclectic!

  • Pros: Ambience and Great People
  • Cons: I have never tried the food so I can't say either way.

Great food and atmosphere.

Love this place. Best food in the CWE. The golden chevre salad and the garlic chicken are favorites. I bring out of town business associates here all the time and always receive outstanding service and fabulous food.

  • Pros: Service, menu, atmosphere
  • Cons: Zero cons

Blossoms into an increasingly foul restaurant with each passing day...

by konabean7

The service here is awful. The servers have NO clue what is on the menu...nor do the chefs. I took my parents who were visiting from out of town to this place for Sunday Brunch (I'd already had one bad experience here but figured maybe it was just an off day)...the bartender had no idea how to fix a simple bellini, so my mom felt bad sending the drink back 5 TIMES...after the 5th time she asked if she could just go back and make her own drink...which they let her do..perfection...the perfect mix of refreshing and not too strong. A bellini, as we all know, is a very common Sunday Brunch cocktail, so this shouldn't have been impossible for the bartender to fix a decent one...instead, the ones the server kept bringing out were essentially glasses of straight alcohol devoid of champagne...and three times they served the wrong alcohol. Go figure. Two of those times the drink wasn't even the right color. They then brought out the wrong food - we were only one of two tables (this should have been the red flag) but somehow all four of our orders were not at all what we had ordered. My goat cheese pizza came out (I kid you not) as a pizza with red sauce...no goat cheese or any of the other toppings that were listed in the description on the menu. Shouldn't both the waiter and chef know what's on the menu?? Moreover, the SAME THING happened to a lady at the table next to us who had ordered the goat cheese pizza. Crust with some tomato sauce - and that's it! Anyway...so we waited another 40 minutes for the correct food orders to come out...when they did the food was ok...definitely NOT worth the wait and all the hassle. Moreover, there was no offer of discounting the food or comp'ing any part of the meal on the bill because of all we had been through to try to get a simple, yummy meal. DO NOT GO HERE - YOU WILL REGRET IT.

  • Pros: The windows were freshly washed and the ground nicely swept
  • Cons: Incompetent and unknowledgeable staff, awful food and service - DON'T GO HERE

Disappointing

by coopstlou

I took my family visiting from out of town on Saturday, 6/28/08, and I was embarassed and disappointed. I bragged about the dining in the CWE and ended up having to apologize. Let's start at the beginning. We were seated fine and gave our order. There was an unusual lag in time before we received our water and tea. I ordered a small spinach salad which I had to stop eating a third of the way in because I felt something in my mouth when I bit down. an inch long piece of metal that looked like a section of a spoke for a motorcycle or a nail. Thankfully it didn't break the tissue of the roof of my mouth but I was freaked out. I brought it to the attention of my waiter and she apologized. The meal that followed for me was wild mushroom fettucini. It looked okay but was far too greasy. (I know, "greasy noodles- gross") The other dishes in my group were just okay. The chicken my sister had was covered with a sauce that tasted scorched/spoiled. The total cost was $80.00 (for 3 people). I wasn't charged for the salad.

Our original plan was to go to Culpeppers - I wished we had. I will never eat a Wild Flower again and will not recommended it to others.

  • Pros: Al fresco dining
  • Cons: Food is just not that good.

absolutely awful

by herberg75

I ordered the goat cheese pizza for $10.50, which is advertised as thin crust, with marinara sauce, with goat cheese topping. I was expecting some artisan crust and great toppings. What came out of the kitchen was awful. The pizza round was clearly store bought, perfectly circular junk crust, smeared with spaghetti sauce (not even marinara and it tasted like Ragu). Gobbed on top in HUGE dollops was a goat cheese cream cheese froth. A two year old with an "Easy Bake" oven could make better pizza. My wife ordered a chicken wrap which was so heavily laden with mayo that she couldn't eat it. The fruit plate that came with the wrap was nothing but tasteless soggy old fruit that had been sitting in a fridge for a week. The bill was $30. Needless to say we won't be back.

  • Pros: Nice part of town
  • Cons: "Easy Bake" oven makes better food.

No Thanks!

by jglisen

Thought we'd try something different for Sunday brunch, bad idea! Although our server was pretty good, the food was far from it. I was told that the feature french toast was actually just regular french toast. It came out very soggy and made with wheat or grain bread. It was unedible. The scrambled eggs were over cooked and were also unedible The bagel was good, though small. Good coffee. There were black hairs on 2 of my friends plates. Won't be back.

  • Pros: location, service
  • Cons: poor food

It's a rare find

by sasquatch61

despite the girlie name the food was killer and the service was excellent. Everyone there was the epitomy of hospitality from the host/manager guy to the busboy. It's a rare find to have night out and spend it so well. Apparently, they also have a great Sunday brunch so we'll definitly be back to give it a try. :-)

  • Pros: hospitality, food, ambiance
  • Cons: parking

A wild mistake.

by new2stl

I used to think fried calamari was fool-proof: here, the appetizer was soggy (the only crunch was from a clump of cajun spice mix). The mushroom appetizer was better, but heavy and uninspired. These appetizers were $7-10 each.

The signature garlic chicken and a pasta dish were inoffensive, but unlovable. The fish was freezer burned and dry. These entrees set us back about $13-19 each.

I have since heard that their salads are good. On our visit, the service was friendly and the wine list had appropriate range.

Bottom line: the prices and below-par food both left a bad taste in our mouths.

  • Pros: Not crowded, Great service
  • Cons: , Expensive for quality

Yummy!

TJ's is one of my favorites! It is best in the summer when you can eat outside. However, the Chevre salad and homemade potato chips are year-round favorites! The eclectic menu is varied and interesting enough to make me a "regular" here.

  • Pros: Menu, Atmosphere, Neighborhood
  • Cons: service

In warmer weather, sidewalk tables make this a see-and-be-seen spot.

by Contributor

The Setting
If you're feeling hip and European, grab a sidewalk table and order a double shot of espresso at T.J.'s Wild Flower. Its prime location at the bustling corner of Euclid and Laclede, in the Central West End, ensures some of the finest people watching in town.

The Menu
The restaurant's menu is varied and reasonably priced, and a few standout dishes make your meal worth the wait. Don't miss the strawberry chevre salad, a bowl of romaine and curly endive tossed with strawberries, tart green apple slices and sugary toasted walnuts. The dinner menu is dominated by chicken entrees, such as a Thai chicken fettuccini dish that pushes the envelope of fusion cooking. Perhaps the best plan is to drop by for Sunday brunch, when you can relax to the strains of a cello and piano duet as you watch the world go by.
