Favorite Italian
by mediterranean
Trattoria Marcella has great food, a nice atmosphere, and excellent service. It's a favorite place of mine to take out of town guests (even Europeans!).
- Pros: Great Food
- Cons: A little busy
still the best Italian anywhere

Best Risotto in Town!
by elisehwall
I found out about this restaurant one night after house sitting and fell in love! The Seafood Risotto is their best feature, although it is pricey for STL Dining. I did later go with my family as a group with kids and they were very accommodating. If you don't feel like being waited on, you can always place your order to go!
- Pros: Risotto, Italian Food
- Cons: Pric, Parking
My favorite restaurant in the WORLD!
by 62roadster
Steve and Jamie have kept their wonderful family-friendly place on the top of the St. Louis list of dining adventures since opening night over 11 years ago. Yes, some places are fancier, and many are more expensive, but if you want truly wonderful food, excellent service, and a great wine list, don't bother traveling around the world. Just go to Trattoria Marcella regularly. You won't get bored, just try one of the ever-changing array of specials based on Steve's creative imagination and Italian country experience.
Second time back
by hotto52
What a meal have been there twice so far and the food and service was great. I had the same server each time and his suggestions were right on. We had a fish special the last time ,simple preperation done perfectly and the stuffed artichoke was not to be missed both times . As far as Italian they are right on. Why try the new chains, so far Trattoria gives it at a better price and better food. How did I miss this place for so long?
- Pros: food, service, wine
- Cons: crowded
Decent food but they expect a 30% tip
by stlfoodconnoisseur
Been to this restaurant 3 times. Food is decent, service is mediocre but yet their crew expect tips to be near 30%. This isn't a 5 star restaurant. Anyone that wants to burn money and show off to their date how much money they can throw away then go for it because I won't be going there anymore. BTW, I wouldn't even recommend this place for a date because the tables are so close together you can smell the perfume or cologne next to you!
- Pros: Food
- Cons: Service, Long wait for table, Expect big tip
Best Italian in St. Louis
by sld
Trattoria Marcella has quickly become my husband and my favorite restaurant. This is not any ordinary italian. This is old world style authentic italian, not the italian-american food you get on the hill. The menu has changed recently and it is even better than before. Try the new ziti, it is fabulous.
- Pros: reasonably priced
Gone down
by ccmosk
This restaurant used to be the favorite for us but since expansion and menu change it is our feeling it no longer meets its reputation. In addition, the service during our last visit (which I admit was awhile ago now) was poor.
City Hype
by mikeg38
Sometimes these reviews reflect a "city bias" and this one fits into that category. It's my job as a suburban snob to bring things into perspective. TM is a very good but not great restaurant. It's food is very innovative and the service is good, but can be a little too familiar. The menu is somewhat limited and perhaps a bit too "light" for more hearty eaters. This would be a great place to take a first date. The food is very tasty and well prepared, but it's not a top 10 nationally nor locally. My wife did enjoy it more than I did.
- Pros: Good food, friendly staff
- Cons: , menu is small
The intimacy and warmth of an Italian eatery combined with American culinary innovation.

In Short
Trattoria Marcella recalls a small, family-run restaurant with a simple menu and a modest decor. A hip crowd of local glitterati mingles in the smartly appointed, high-decibel dining area. Nobby goat cheese gnocchi arrives dressed in an alfredo sauce gently tinged pink with tomato. The carpaccio di crostini is a first course of rare beef tenderloin sliced thin and layered with arugula, tart artichoke-onion relish and shaved Asiago cheese, served on slices of toasted bread.
