VEGETARIANS BEWARE!!!

by nicolepost

I am ashamed to have trusted this restaurant for so long. After taking my mother to dinner tonight, feel terrible that her birthday was celebrated at a place that charges so much for such a SMALL piece of fish. $20.95 for what was probably 3 ounces! We also seemed to encounter the only wait staff that actually knows what is IN the food. She informed us that the spinach gnocci is made with chicken stock, which is what we have ordered for years. Regardless of our consistent requests for vegetarian options and even in seeking advice from the staff, we were told that the spinach gnocci was vegetarian-friendly. Do not take your vegetarian friends or family, as they have no policies informing their staff of the food ingredients. Not only is this a lack of respect, but it's LOW CLASS!

  • Pros: authentic Italian
  • Cons: costly, small portions, uninformed staff, NOT vegetarian

Bad Experience!

by abbyschwarz1212

My boyfriend and I went there for Valentine's day. We expected a short wait, but ended up waiting for 2+ hours for a table (along with everyone else who had a reservation!). By the time we were seated, we were not that hungry.

No apology from server or manager at any point. Poor hostesses were nice, but not prepared for such a mess! Bartender was nice enough, but overwhelmed as well.

Food was just OK, not worth the wait or price. Obviously, this is only one night out of the year, but it wasn't that great, even if we had been seated at a normal time.

Great atmosphere, less than great entrees!

by JosephHoeing

Lovely Restaurant, great ambiance, but the main courses my wife and I had were both less than what we would have expected. The red snapper was overdone to the point it was hard to cut without a knife, and the risotto tasted like it had been overcooked by an hour!

Despite these disappointments, it is still a wonderful venue to visit. Service was prompt and friendly, and appetizers and salads were good. My wife had a Brandy Alexander that was the best I've ever tasted!

Except for the chef (cook??), this would have been a memorable evening

Third visit to Lorenzos! Each dinner has been over the top! Food is well worth the price! Exceptional taste, great service and fantastic desserts. Great Cocktails! Best kept secret on the Hill! Try it - you won't be disappointed. We will continue to return..over and over again!

very good

They add an interesting twist to traditional Italian cuisine. The food is excellent, service is great, drinks are generous. The restaraunt itself has a very nice floorplan and is decorated tastefully. Great place for a date.

  • Pros: No smoking

Best Italian Food

by ahrens77

I have been to a lot of Italian Restaurants in St. Louis and this one is one of the best! I enjoyed everything I have tried. The spaghetti is wonderful, their fish dishes are wonderfully prepared. If you are looking for and great Italian place, this is it.

Good food!

Lorenzo's service was really great and I loved the food. It's a beautiful space and everyone was very friendly. One of the best all around Italian spots on the Hill.

Dining on the Hill means more than dressing up for dull food.

The Scene
The 100-year-old building's clean beige stucco walls and sparkling leaded glass door give the fledgling restaurant a fresh, tidy facade. The cozy dining area has a Tuscan look, with dappled gold paint, craggy terra cotta wall sconces and a swirled-glass center fixture that casts a pleasant glow in the room.

The Food
Pizza, gnocchi and risotto dishes outnumber stock standbys like stuffed or braised veal. Contemporary ingredients and preparations augment most items--the house salad with with toasted pistachios and crisp bits of prosciutto, or Chicken Marsala with earthy oven-dried tomatoes and Parmesan mashed potatoes, for example. Seafood dishes, such as red snapper with grilled polenta and sauteed spinach, or shrimp ravioli, should not be missed.

Great for a Date

by Grumman

The food was much better than expected. Service was top notch. Server made us feel at home and treated us like her only customers. You will pay for the service and meal but it is well worth it. Ambience would have been much better but there was a large crowd of loud women next to us.

  • Pros: Service, Food, Ambience
  • Cons: Little Pricey

Best Value in Town

by ballparks1996

This family establishment is nothing but the best value in all of St. Louis. Unusally inexpensive for the usual lack lustre St. Louis Italian food, Lorenzo's never fails to impress. It honestly can't be beat in this town.
