great reviews from L.A.
by LAKate
The best rolls/sandwiches we've ever had. Heard from a business associate in LA to go there when we were in town. They were right! Now that we live here it is a must for our visitors. Hot sandwich a must. Great local sodas and great great neighborhood stores.
- Pros: best sandwiches
- Cons: there aren't any
Not impressed
by willetta
I visited this bakery today and was very displeased. The service was bad and the selection was horrible. There were 4 items in the case to choose from. I decied on a brownie and it was dry and mealy. I was not happy with this place.
pretty good sandwhich
by VicVegas
Pretty good sandwhiches if you can avoid the weird sauce they put on it. Some people say that's what makes it great. Parking can be brutal if you don't know the area.
- Cons: what's up with the sauce?
Tastes like Brooklyn.

The Scene
Have you ever tasted a sandwich from a corner Italian market in New York or Jersey? Remember the way the winnowy flakes of crust cascaded down your shirt front as the chewy, tan-crusted veneer gave way to a tender alabaster interior? The way the fresh mozzarella squished between your teeth as it yielded to your bite? If you've never had this peak life experience, or if you'd like to closely replicate it, go to Amighetti's on the Hill.
The Food
Order the Little Bit of Italy sandwich, with Genoa salami, brick and American cheeses, olives and onions, dressed with garlic butter and heaped on thick hunks of Amighetti's peerless Italian bread. (Take a loaf home from the shop's bakery.) The Amighetti's Special, which features ham and roast beef as well as salami, is also a fetching choice. The perfect companions for any sandwich here are cole slaw and potato salad, both of which are blanketed with coats of creamy mayonnaise. At Amighetti's, you don't come to worry about what you eat; you just come to enjoy it. And do treat yourself to gelato on the enclosed courtyard after you've polished your sandwich.
