Some of the best Chinese in the world!
by jeffng65
I used to live two hours outside St. Louis and would drive in just to eat at Yen Chings. I've eaten Chinese food all over the world and this is some of the best out there. The pan fried dumplings are amazing and so is the mapo tofu. I no longer live in Missouri and really miss this place.
- Pros: Food, service, consistency
- Cons: None
WORST CHINESE FOOD IN ST. LOUIS!
by Cushie
I ordered take out from this place for the first time and I can honestly say it was THE WORST food I've ever had! My finance and I ordered 2 dishes, an egg roll, and a crab ragoon and it somehow came to $35! On top of that, my orange chicken looked more like french fries covered in orange sauce (I seriously don't think it was chicken). I ended up throwing my entire meal away...such a waste.
Consistent, excellent and delicious. A St. Louis Favorite for decades

My spouse and I first experienced Yen Chings more than 25 years ago. We were taken there by a friend who had lived in China and loved Yen Chings. We had no idea Chinese food could taste so wonderful. We keep coming back several times a year and are rarely disappointed. These many years, and many Chinese restaurants later, we have never found better potstickers, egg rolls or mu shoo pork. These are our favorites and truly outstanding. Their mu shoo pork is assembled at the table and the textures blend perfectly and the flavors are so fresh! Another treat is their signature Yen Ching beef. Excellent, spicy, rich, slightly sweet and memorable. Years ago, I learned how to make it and it is a staple in our diet (although I can't do it as well as their chefs.)
It's not fancy or pretentious or trendy, but it is a very good Chinese restaurant with a big menu, discreet and pleasant service, comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, reasonable prices and good food. We just came back from our umpteenth visit and loved it.
- Pros: Always excellent, fresh, flavorful Chinese food. Good, but not obtrusive service.
- Cons: None
A St. Louis staple -
by shayup1
I used to eat here all the time 10-12 years ago when I lived in St.Louis. I always got the Hot Eggplant, and it never disappointed. I recently visited St.L and made a point of going to Yen Ching. I was so happy to see it was still open. My server let me order the eggplant off of the dinner menu eventhough it was lunchtime. It was great as usual. If you're ever in St.L and craving Chinese food, go here. Save enough room to go to Ted Drewes afterward!
Hands down the best Chinese food in the Lou!

If your lookin for Chinese, and your worried about disease.
Then head to Yen Ching's, it will bring you to your knees!
The food is F in great, you can bring your gorgeous date.
Show up anytime, and you'll never have to wait!
So if you want some food, that tastes really really good.
Head over to Yen Chings's, Hot Braised Chicken, at least I would!

Horrible Experience
by lrsk
My experience with this restaurant was horrible. The orange chicken was spiced with ground black pepper which tasted horrible. Additionally there was five dollars added to my delivery charge plus I had to leave a tip which came to $25 for one person. It was a very bad experience and I would not recommend this restaurant.
- Cons: Expensive, Bad Food
Very tasty and quick

I eat in..and order out on a regular basis. Always friendly...and quick service. I think the nice thing about the place is they don't harass you throughout the meal. They quietly service your table with you hardly noticing. Very consistent service.
- Pros: Good Food, Good Location, Easy to get table
Delicious!

I really love this restaurant. I consider myself fairly picky about Chinese food, and this place doesn't disappoint. It makes me nervous that a PF Changs has opened up almost next store. This restaurant is too good to lose.

I have been going to Yen Ching for over 10 years and I do not have one bad thing to say about the restaurant other than I wish it would get more recognition.
- Pros: Affordable, Prompt Service, Excellent food
- Cons: Small parking lot
