I was there a couple years ago and although the hotel was dirty and filled with a staff that you would expect to find at a junkyard, the nightclub more than made up for what the rooms and hotel staff lacked so I return July 2008 only to find the nightclub closed , Also the restaurant was closed the pool was closed but the rooms were still dirty and the staff was still arrogant, they would not refund my money so I could go to another hotel ,although I did so anyway.

Pros: Nice location

Cons: everything closed except for the front desk

The condition of the Cheshire Lodge is deplorable! The lodge owner has managed to run one of the most charming hotels in St Louis into the ground. My last stay in April was horrible. The garage and pool had been condemned by the city. You had to walk on a unstable plywood bridge just to get in, The fabulous restaurant and pub closed (because the lodge owner kicked out the operators). The only available parking was on a dark alley behind the now closed restaurant (unsafe and scary). The staff is rude does not seem to care about the terrible condtions. They seem to think closing is in the very near future! The entire inside has a old stale smell. Rooms and beds are in run down condition. It is ashame what has happened to the Cheshire complex. I will not return and hope future people don't make the same mistake I made by staying there.

Pros: Location

Cons: Room, Bed, Pool, Parking, Restaurant, Pub, Service, Cleanliness

You can not rely on their website for accurate information. We were guests in mid-July, 2007 and the pool had been closed all summer, the underground parking lot has been condemned (per the hotel staff). They did not have adequate parking for the number of guests. They asked us to park our car on the street and for safety of our car, "we should sleep in our car". I would not recommend this Inn to my worst enemy. For your safety, please stay somewhere else.

Pros: None

Cons: Unsafe, dirty, old

Good location and price but be prepared to pay for it with the worst customer service imaginable. The problems began when I attempted to confirm my reservation and the person on the phone refused to help me. Instead, he told me to call the website that I booked through. Then, my friend, who was also staying at the hotel, left his credit card at the hotel bar overnight. The next morning, he had to go through a 30-minute ordeal with the desk staff because they refused to open the lock box. Avoid.

Pros: Price, location

Cons: Customer Service

Pretty quiet place and you can tell they kind of like it that way. They don't go out of their way to be over the top in any way; doors, walls, fixtures are well maintained despite their age. Rooms and hallways are sanitary for sure. However, this hotel is proud of it's age and sense of history. Specific to our one night stay was a handicapped accessible room that had all the necessary customizations in the bathroom, which is important to the handicapped. Very nice wireless internet and for those without a laptop, there is a computer room that includes a printer. The overall feel and character is a bit of old school pampering. The strength is in the detail, the little things. Not the newest, most sterile. But solidly clean with good service. The pool was out of service during our visit, and the restaurant was closed for remodeling.

Pros: Parking, Location, Price, Character

Cons: Pool and Restaurant not in service,

This hotel is is cozy and romantic. The Fox and the Hound is a great piano bar tucked away in the main lobby. Mark, the bartender, is wonderful as is the piano player. There is usually a fire burning when the weather is appropriate and it simply has a wonderful atmosphere. On the other hand, the front desk staff are rude and unhelpful. In the lobby, there is absolutely no pay phone nor a local line for complimentary use. I politely requested to use the phone at the front desk and was told 'they don't just let anyone off the street use their phones'. I assume they assumed I wasn't staying in the hotel since I had chatted with them earlier and mentioned I was from St. Louis. They directed me to a pay phone in a parking lot of a nearby resteraunt!!

Pros: Fox & Hound Pub, quaint, cozy

Cons: front desk staff, smoky bars
