Great decor and it is a nice little spot if you have all the time in the world. With the exception of the first visit when Neil tended bar the service has been AWFUL. Seating is very limited. Good luck finding a spot for four let alone two after 9pm Friday or Saturday. I have been at the bar several times. The first was a blast and we were taken care of however it was a lazy Thursday night. The same came not be said for the weekend visits. Table service was a joke, one visit by the sever no follow up. It has never been the same bar tender in the four or five times I have visited. Each trip has been worse than the time before. I caution you about going here. I would not take friends from in town or out of town here.

I was very hesitant to wander into the pub after reading the last reviewers comments on the bartender. I had heard that the bartender of 20+ years had left the establishment a year or so before my visit, and that he had been replaced with someone with a different sense of humor and style. It has been many years since I partook in the great drinks, cozy atmosphere and the overall "ambiance" of the Fox and Hounds within the bowels of the Cheshire Lodge. I will keep this simple and to the point Cheshire Lodge; don't change a thing. The new bartender was a perfect fit for the overall feel of the bar. I tended bar in my college days and know how it feels to have 20 or 30 people come up to me at last call and ask for the tab to be split up how ever many ways. Anyway, kudos to the bartender for taking care of us and keeping the pub as a whole happy during a very busy evening. I think the last reviewer needs a lesson in "English Pub" etiquette and perhaps a hefty spoon feeding of ambiance as the bartender truly brings the feeling of the Fox and Hounds full circle.

This place is an establishment... it's old, English, and cozy. But unfortunately the bartender ruins the ambiance. He was completely rude and overcharged us on our drinks. Then, because there were about 20 of us in the bar, refused to split up our checks. A plea to the Cheshire Lodge... get another bartender!
Pros: The ambiance
Cons: the Bartender!

There are few places as cozy, no matter what the season, as the Fox and Hounds. Sometimes on a Friday night after work it can be a little crowded, but on a Saturday night, it can be quiet enough to have a pleasant drink and conversation. It's small, and a bit claustrophobic, but in a sense, that is its charm. Not to mention the competent bartender, and the piano player, who comes in around 10 pm. The pizza is a bit pricey, around $17.00 for a large, but is good. The cheese platter is a good value, and the drinks are reasonably priced. For me it's not so much a singles bar, but a place to hang out and talk, and have a few good pints, or one of their great drinks. The hot scotch is especially good, any time of year. If you like sitting around in low light, on comfy couches and chairs, then this is the place for you. That being said, let's keep it a secret, but tell your friends....

This is the perfect conversation place. Comfortable enough to sit back and relax or to sit up and laugh.
Pros: Friendly bartenders, Comfy seats, Ambiance
Cons: Rude hotel staff, Tight parking lot

If you consider yourself a St. Louisan, then you have to go to Fox and Hounds at least once in your life. I've never been to the UK, but this is what I think would be a classic representation of a English tavern. The dark, cozy atmosphere is embelished with traditional leather chairs and couches, paintings and old book filled shelves. This is not a large tavern, but that is part of what makes it so great.
Pros: atmosphere

Fox & Housds was a delight to visit! The smallish bar was packed with people, but it was not unpleasant. Most patrons were 35+, and having a great time! Live pianist / singer was great but not intrusive, playing old favorites like Sweet Caroline. They have a huge selection of mixed drinks, coffees, beers, and whiskies. Unfortunately they had a small selection of food items. We had the large cheeseboard, and we were impressed! This was not your usual cheddar-mozz-swiss plate. Very highly recommended to those looking to get away from the noisy college bars.
Pros: Drink Selection, Seating / Ambiance, Friendly Staff
Cons: Crowded

I think the Fox and Hounds Tavern is one of the neatest places in St. Louis...It is a place that remains forever etched in your heart. I have only the fondest of memories since I started going there in the late 60's and have returned everytime my travels bring me back to St. Louis.
Pros: Happy Place, Friendly Servers, Great Ambiance
Cons: , None, None
