Don't Listen to the Morons

by MexLover at Citysearch

Don't listen to the MORONS posting anything negative about this fantastic restaurant. I've eaten here hundreds of times since they've opened, and it's BY FAR the best Mexican or Tex-Mex restaurant in St. Louis. BY FAR! If I had to choose between this restaurant and Chicago's Frontera Grill, I would choose Nacho Mammas hands down. Its true, the restaurant is too popular for its own good and they don't always have the ability to tend to cleaning up the dining room as fast as they should, and once in awhile they've made a mistake on my order, but I don't care. The FOOD is incredibly good and remarkably consistent. The haters who have posted negative reviews deserve to be kicked in their fat taco-bell shaped asses. They have NO idea what they're talking about! Five stars all the way on the TASTE alone, and isn't that what REALLY matters? Taco Bell? Do they even use MEAT in their tacos? LOL!

  • Pros: Unbelievable Food
  • Cons: Too popular for the size of the restaurant

Unique Tex-Mex

by mrsbunnboy at Citysearch

While I do agree that the prices are a bit high, the food is really good. I really liked the old shrimp tacos when the shrimp were fried. But we greatly enjoy the grilled chicken nachos! The guac is good but really expensive (at least to me it is). But all in all, good and unique food.

  • Pros: food not found anywhere else
  • Cons: price

Poor service, clean your own table, long wait time, the list goes on and on...

by pantera223 at Citysearch

I wouldn't even give this place 1 star, but I had to give at least 1. We went once on a Friday night, big mistake. Order was way off, the place was too crowded, the food was either under or over cooked, and the place was filthy. The second time we went on a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon. Much better. Food was decent, at least the order was right. The restaurant was still disgustingly dirty. We do not like eating out for lunch, and instead like to go out for dinner. We tried a Saturday night and just went through the drive-thru instead since it was busy. The people who took my order were nice each time I came in. The sides, such as sour cream, were way too expensive. Each time we went back we were tempted to go and buy our own pound of sour cream at Dierberg's for much less than 50 cents a tablespoon.

We would not recommend this place because 1. It's disgustingly dirty. 2. The tall blonde who works the drive thru most of the time (someone told us she's the owner) is very rude and doesn't give out even a napkin unless you check your order and demand one (God forbid if you want two). 3. This is not fast food. It takes a long time to get your order even when it is slow. 4. The prices are too high. 5. The quality of the food is poor (Taco Bell can do a better job). 6. You have to clean your own table. 7. The place is packed full of too any tables and twice as many chairs. People have to scoot-in just for you to get to a table. 8. Owner/drive-thru lady is a true witch, to both customers and employees (we witnessed her screaming at one of the workers there, in front of everyone!). Male owner is very polite & customer-friendly (so we are told).

  • Pros: Truth be told: None whatsoever.
  • Cons: Blond lady who is always there, poor service, VERY DIRTY, gross. Too many tables, etc.

What a rip-off

by flagday1 at Citysearch

I went to Nachomamas because I heard the food was great. What I found was an overpriced dirty overcrowded fast food restaurant. The burrito I ordered was large, filled with curnchy rice, mushy beans, the shredded chicken was hard to find, then top that with lots of cabbage and almost no cheese. It was over 6 bucks. My husband ordered the enchilada platter, the tortillas they were wrapped in were falling apart and soggy. There was so much sauce on top it was hard to even see what was in them. They were a sloppy pile of saucey mush. Chips do not come with the meal, so with a burrito, enchilada platter, chips and guacamole, and 2 margaritas, our fast food experience came to a total of over 36.00. I had to stand in line, weave thru tables too close together, then do it all again when they called my name. Nachomamas is a lot of work with not very good food for a pretty large price.

  • Pros: The teenagers were nice
  • Cons: lots

Nacho Mamas

by wasgordon at Citysearch

Food is good. Don't get an extra side of sour cream, though - you'll pay 65 cents for a tablespoon of it - seems like a rip-off to me. I like to be treated fairly - I get that food prices are increasing, but 65 cents for a tablespoon of sour cream, come on!

  • Pros: food is ok
  • Cons: sides are a rip off

Best Tex Mex

by Ilovemexfood at Citysearch

Delicious, flavorful tex-mex. I have tried most of the mexican restaurants in our town and this one is my absolute FAVE. I'm a clean freak, but seriously people, where have you EVER seen a very clean fast food restaurant of ANY kind? You have to realize they are creating a dive atmosphere on purpose - but at least they wipe the tables off (which is more than you can say for many places).

Whoever said the fajita steak tacos weren't good is crazy. CRAZY. They are so good I can hardly bring myself to try much else on the menu. My husband loves the fish tacos and the fish burrito and he can't bring himself to try anything else. The salsa is fresh and delicious, the chips fresh and salty, and I love the beans and rice. I haven't tried the chicken, but my friend loves it (and it is rotisserie roasted in a wood fired oven!). It HAS to be good.

As for friendliness - the owner greets me with a smile every time I'm in there. But who cares? I'm not there to make friends. Just to savor the awesome food!

And I agree with the other reviewer - if you like Hacienda (and I don't) - then you probably won't like Nachomama's - too much flavor!

Dissapointed

by bluesfan9 at Citysearch

I would have to agree with loolooloo. My wife works just down the street from Nachomama's and her co-workers raved about it. We decided to try it. We were pretty dissapointed. It was crowded, dirty and unorganized. You serve yourself but the prices are like a sit down restaurant. I had the steak tacos and my wife had the chicken burrito. My tacos were decent, nothing special, but the rice that came with them was pretty bad. My wife's burrito was terrible. She barely touched it. She kept saying she couldn't find the chicken. When she finally gave up, I cut it open to see for myself. I seriously doubt that there was more than 1 oz. of chicken in that 1 pound burrito!

I noticed that a number of people had gotten the nachos or at least the queso with their chips. The chips were excellent. Maybe we'll have to go back sometime, when it is less crowded, and try the nachos.

All in all it was a bad experience. It made me wish we had gone to Pueblo Nuevo, El Maguey, Ruiz., or maybe even Qudoba. (You know, it was most like Qudoba)

We will give it another try sometime and I will adjust this if the experience is better.

  • Pros: good chips and condiments selection
  • Cons: pricey for what you get. too many tables

Overpriced for what it is

by loolooloo at Citysearch

The food was decent, but I found it to be very overpriced considering:

-You have to order at the counter and then pick up your food at the counter when they call your number

-You usually have to wait in line to place your order, and there is nowhere to stand, making the whole process cumbersome and awkward.

-There was not a clean table in the place. We had to wipe ours off with napkins, and there were food bits all over the floor.

-The atomosphere is very divey--mismatched, dirty tables and chairs that are crammed in tight, making the task of picking up your food at the counter (along with your plastic cutlery, condiments, etc.) and getting it back to your table without spilling it on a fellow patron a challenging one

Bottom line: If you are okay with a dive atomosphere and serve-yourself-food for the same price as a regular sit-down Mexican restaurant, the food is decent, but I think that there is better Mexican food to be had elsewhere.

Best enchiladas anywhere and great prices

by dreamlaw at Citysearch

I love Nacho Mamma's. I find the review saying that the pro is that "Hacienda is across the street" so humorous, and actually a GREAT review for Nacho Mamma's. Why? Because Hacienda (across the street) may have a world class patio, the food there is gawdawful americanized (and badly) Tex Mex designed for the palate that has no taste. If the reviewer likes Hacienda, then I know he or she has ZERO taste for food. Maybe he works for Hacienda?

Nacho Mamma's has flavor, the food is well done, and it's inexpensive. They use cabbage, not lettuce, much more authentic. The fish tacos are wonderful. The enchilada is flavorful and rish. The guacamole is fresh and served in a half avocado shell. The salsa is fire-grilled and flavorful. The salsa bar has cilantro, lemons, limes, salsas, diced fresh jalapeno, and other items to garnish the already wonderful food. For inexpensive, fun Tex Mex it's Nacho Mamma's. I'm an incredibly picky reviewer of restaurants, and I'm glad I live near there.

  • Pros: Well done flavorful food
  • Cons: Can be crowded at lunch

Avoid this place at all costs

by jb120 at Citysearch

Bad food, very very dirty inside, Do NOT go through the drive through because your order will be wrong and they really do not care. Rude staff and owners. Avoid this place, go to Hacienda if you are in Rock Hill.

  • Pros: Hacienda is across the street
  • Cons: Bad Food, Very Dirty, Drive through can not get things correct and they don't care!!!
