GERMAN?? WHERE??
by spider472
Other than the appearance of the restaurant on the outside this place has very little to no german food items. I was extremely disappointed with this place. The menu items are very average and overpriced for what you get. My family is from Germany and expect good german food. If you like average overpriced American food then this is your place.
- Pros: Clean
- Cons: Long Wait, Over Priced, Nothing Ethnic
German favorites and American fare in a dining room forgotten by time.

The Scene
Handsome Teutonic antiques greet you in the foyer and the waiter's stand is massive and impressive. But the dining rooms are rather tired and worn and lack the initial charm of the place. This is a favorite of Ladue's senior citizens; many coming daily for their favorites. You'll see a few young couples now and then, likely mimicking their parents' dining patterns. The bar, on the other hand, is a lively after-working watering hole.
The Food
There's nothing cutting edge about the menu. Rather it has an old-fashioned almost retro feel to it. Meat-lovers will have no problem making a choice; vegetarians should love cabbage and salad. On a recent visit, the pork roast was tender, flavorful and truly tasted homemade. The sauerbraten, an Old World German favorite, was so overwhelmed by its brine-induced flavor that it rendered the palate impervious to the nuances of the side dishes and the wine.
- Pros: senior appeal
German in name only

I took my brother and his roommate (who is from Germany) to this restaurant expecting it to actually serve German food. And no, having 3 dishes containing bratwurst and knockwurst do not make a restaurant German. I was expecting schnitzel and sauerbraten, but instead they have steak salad and hamburgers. Don't go here in search of German food, you'll be greatly disappointed.
- Cons: Not German, Long Wait, Expensive

Visiting St. Louis this weekend, went to Schneithorst's Hofamberg Inn for great German food ... only to find out the German portion is CLOSED!! Very disappointed .. don't bother going unless you want American Food .. which may be quite good, but we didn't stick around to find out.
- Pros: Decor, Good Parking
- Cons: No German Food, No German Food, No German Food
